About the Event

Tech Snakes and Ladders reimagines the classic board game with a technological twist! Teams navigate through a giant 10x10 game board where each square presents a unique challenge related to computer science, programming, tech trivia, or puzzle-solving. Roll the dice to advance, but beware of the digital snakes that might set you back and seek out the ladders that propel you forward.

This innovative event combines physical movement with mental challenges, creating an immersive experience where teams compete in real-time on a life-sized game board. Players must demonstrate quick thinking, technical knowledge, and strategic decision-making to overcome obstacles and reach the finish line first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a typical game last?
Games typically run between 45-60 minutes, depending on team performance and luck with dice rolls. The event will feature multiple game sessions throughout the day, with teams advancing through preliminary rounds before the final championship round.
What if we can't solve a challenge?
Each challenge has a specific time limit (typically 2-3 minutes). If your team cannot solve the challenge within the time limit, you'll either stay in place or, in the case of snake squares, move backward to the corresponding square. Teams are allowed to skip one challenge per game using a "skip token."
What technical knowledge is required?
Challenges cover a broad spectrum of difficulty, from basic computer knowledge that any CS student would know to more advanced concepts. Having team members with diverse knowledge areas (programming, hardware, theory, etc.) is advantageous. The challenges are designed to be approachable for undergraduate CS students.
Can we bring reference materials or devices?
No external reference materials, books, or electronic devices are allowed during the game. All necessary equipment for solving challenges will be provided at the venue. The challenges are designed to test your knowledge and quick thinking without external resources.
Is there a dress code for the event?
Comfortable casual attire is recommended as you'll be moving around the game board. Teams are encouraged to wear matching colors or accessories for team identification. Comfortable shoes are a must, as you'll be standing for most of the game.
